Embarrassing Moments

You know how sometimes you do something and you are so embarrassed to even recall that incident? This morning at a professional networking breakfast, I spotted a Stink Bug flying around the ceiling. Trying to keep calm, I think, okay stinky bug, if you stay where you are we can actually go through the whole meeting with you being there. As the meeting was ending, I heard a Buzz noise and next thing I know is something hits my head from behind and drops right in front of me. Okay, so I did scream and I did push away. Someone at my table said, Newsha they can't eat much don't worry. I had no intention in flipping the bug away, so John sitting next to me did so. The meeting ended 10 seconds after. That 10 seconds lasted like 10 years for me. And yes, I did look through my Jacket, purse and notebook to make sure I am not carrying any stink bug right after the meeting. All the guys shaking their head and saying they are disappointed. Well, guess what I am a girl and I sure can scream!

Smart Kiddo

There are some qualities that I really appreciate in kids and am fascinated by it. One of them is "thinking outside the box", they just do it naturally. I guess as kids you have the natural ability to think outside the box and be creative. As you grow older, you learn more and you are aware of more things, might be overwhelmed and suddenly you have to take classes to remember how to be creative.

Last night as I came back home from GYM my neighbor's kids where playing infront of our house. They are my favorite kids. So as Meghan and Bradley gave me hugs (I had to beg Bradley for one!) they asked me if they could come over to our house. So I let them in, put their show on and put their favorite couch infront of the TV to watch and talk with me while I was preparing food in the kitchen. I looked over and I saw only four feet dangling happily from the couch, so I felt good. As I was texting their mom to let her know they were with me, I heard :"Newsha Look!". I found Bradley standing above our couch on the edge and the metal table was right underneath!

Me: "Bradley, buddy, come down you are going to hurt yourself!"

Brad:" No I am not falling. Look. Look."

Oh God, I knew if I put a step toward him he would jump off!

Meghan : "Bradley, Come down Now! If you break Ms. Newsha's chair she will be mad and we can never play here again!"

Bradley's eyes were wide open watching me!

Me:" Well I can always replace a broken chair, but if Bradley breaks his head we cannot buy him a new one and that won't be fun!"

Bradley was hesitant for a minute and almost climbed down. Then he had an idea:

"mmmmm .... AHA! I can wear my hat and then jump!"

I finally watched The King's Speech. I absolutely adore that movie, one of my favorite movies of all time. This is one of my challenges as well, public speaking scares me. I don't studder, but I do forget all the words and I run out of vocabulary. I start sweating and then I start talking Farsi.

The message and the story of King's Speech took my breath away. Specially the scene of the rehearsal. Berti's frustration and Lionel's passion and patience were so powerful.

I knew what Berti was going through and it felt so real and painful.

I want to recommend 3 books that I absolutely love!

First comes "Room" by Emma Donoghue

This book opens your eyes to the world. It certainly changes your perspective on life. Now, I am not saying that it is a Self-Improve type of a read. It is a novel. I hope Fiction. It is said from the point of view of a 5 year old. You will learn about his world as you go and he will learn with you. I love this book and me and Bobby we still use some of the lines of this book.

Second is "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls

You might have heard that this book is a sad read! Well it is, but it is well worth your sadness. She is an amazing author and this book will be with you where ever you go until you finish!

Last is "The Help" by Kathrine Stockett

You must read and must watch the movie! I would even recommend watching before reading! You know how they say if you read the book first the movie is never good enough. Well that would be one reason and the other one is the fact that the movie gives you a great picture of what people look like. I just finished the book and I didn't want it to be done! I double checked the page numbers in case I am missing something.

There is something weird happening. To get you up to speed, I will give you some background:

Background

I have been going to Spin classes for the last 3 months (minus a month that I was in Iran in between). If you wake up at 5:00 a.m. to go to a class at 5:40 a.m. which is only 45 minutes long, is not because you didn't have anything else to do, right? It is because you needed a good workout to get your heartbeat going and get your day start right. 45 minute class doesn't have any breaks between songs. You just go until you drop dead. Usually burning about 800 Calories.

Story

There is this girl, instructor, that teaches on Wednesday morning. The first thing is she walks in the class at 5:45 with her slippers on, then she starts setting her bike. Then her music. Then about 5:55 we start warming up, and she has this very lame workout. She would play CELINE DION for workout!!! WHAT?! Then she gives you 10 minutes to cool down! Total Calorie burning:300 max!!!!!!!

So after couple times frustrations I just decided not to go on Wednesdays and go on Friday instead! Now she started teaching the Fridays as we, cause she is best friend with the instructor and now every time that lady is sick or tired she asks her to come to the class! The worst part is that she has microphone on and she is talking to her friend all the time!!!!! ...

So the other night we were out with friends enjoying the beautiful weather on the patio of the restaurant. Watching the stars, when I started to talk about my miserable spin instructor. And there she walked out of the restaurant! I was speechless!

You know what my friends said? Stop hating her, or before you know she will be your best friend! UGH!

One of a Kind

The Big Reunion

Last weekend was a big fun event for me. We had a big reunion with my cousins (dad's side if the family) in washington DC for my aunt's birthday. We had a big surprise birthday party for her. Last week at this very moment I was getting ready to go to my cousin's house and prepare everything for the big party that night. My aunt's first surprise was when she got in the house 114 people sang her Happy Birthday. Her othere surprise was to see her sons who can from CA and AZ and my cousin from CA. And the last one was my uncle from NJ!

I love my cousin Sammy and his wife Kim and I miss them beyond belief! Everytime I see an e-mail or text from them I find a big smile on my face!

The reason that I am writing this is to introduce you to couple places in DC that you should visit.

First, I want you to meet my cousin Sammy the Big Chef (To me he is a Rock Star Chef). He lives in San Diego with his beautiful wife and they own a catering business. Toast provides a very very unique and spectacular experience for you and your gusts. I am not saying this just because I love them, but because this is true. Sam is a wonderful chef and his wife Kim does a great job decorating at the events. They are a wonderful team.

Now here are the places that I think you should visit in DC:

18th Street Lounge: It looks like you are walking in to someone's house and as you go up the stairs the music gets louder. It sort of looks like a Haunted House. Dark and Spooky, but the music is fun. Each part of the houe plays a different kind of music, Techno, Reggae, Jazz, Rap ...

Also, take the time to go to Buddha Bar in DC. It is very very nice and the food is fabulous. Oh and please try the Apple Martini. I am not a Martini girl, but that is just one of a kind!

I'm going to tell you though! I found Snow Patrol's website! and I read Gary's Blog ... Above all I commented and wrote that his voice is magical and it calms me down. I didn't say anything about the fact that I'm in love with his voice and I think it is super sexy! Didn't need to ... but I had to say something!

Well, if they come to LA this year (as they planned) I will be there and I will probably cry while listening to him. And you are not allowed to laugh at me ... or you could it's your life!

Oh, really? You thought so? ...

Well, this happened by force! This morning our coffee machine broke and I couldn't fix it. Since it was already 10 and I was late so I decided to skip coffee and drink tea. There was this voice in my head saying ,"you didn't grow up with coffee, just drink your tea and you will be fine." I had to sigh out loud when I realized I have no black tea (for some reason I thought it was cool to buy 10,000 boxes of blueberry tea).

Hour and half after the tea and my eyes are burning. My head is light ... I feel like I didn't get much sleep last night, which isn't true (8 hours enough?).

Oh, and I'm ready to go home:| you know why? Because there in my cabinet I have three jars of instant coffees and I have Hazlenut cream!

Well recently I have found this passion within me for cooking! Experimenting, but not necessarily eating! I went to Borders last night just with the idea of buying some Christmas cards to mail to Family and Friends. As soon as I turned my back to close the door behind me(it was very cold) I thought I saw a sign saying Cooking and Food! So I ran there and there I found a whole shelf of Julia Child's Books. I found myself screaming with joy, sitting on the floor and reading them. I couldn't afford the big ones! Those are about $100, I still bought the mini book of her shows and I think that would do for the start:)

I am very excited and I know Bobby is, too! We still have a big pot of eggplant to finish and get more room in the fridge:)

Paranormal Entity

You would think a talented and smart girl like me wouldn't do it to herself twice!

Well I had to get scared some how on Halloween. Two nights ago we decided to watch a scary movie in our new HD TV in the bedroom! It was pass 9:30 pm that we started watching "Paranormal Entity". If you read my post on "Paranormal Activity" movie then you would know what I am talking about.

As scared as I was, I was amazed that I wouldn't even blink not to miss a second of scariness in this movie. 40 minutes in the movie, I heard my husband snoring! So I had to wake him up: "Okay honey you need to wake up and watch this creepy movie with me. We are in this together!" eventually we turned it off and put it back on Football!

That 40 minutes was enough for me. Here we go every night I wake up around 2 or 3 a.m. and can't go back to sleep without any creepy feelings!

Just wanted to tell you that if need to get scared, watch this and WATCH IT IN YOUR OWN BEDROOM!

From Facebook Addiction to Coffee Addiction

There was a point in my life when if you were in a party and we were talking about someone who you haven't met I would turn my phone on and would click on my facebook icon and boooom would show you thousands of their pictures!!!!

It got so scary at a time when even in the bathroom I would check my notifications!

Well! I haven't checked it in about a month and I am not really excited about going back! Now my friends are calling me or e-mailing me instead of writing on my wall and most amazingly I am loving it! The other night I received a message from a friend who told me how much she missed me and For God's Sakes I have no idea who she is! I bet I would know her if she wrote on my wall ....I can't recognize her voice! I have it saved and would listen to it every night trying to remember who I should call back!

Now I have another dilemma! I am addicted to my Coffee! ME & COFFEE?!!!! I can't remember how that happened! This morning my coffee was late and I had such a bad headache that I was ready to kill someone ...

1972: Survivors found 10 weeks after plane crash

The Chilean Air force has found 14 survivors from a plane that crashed in the Argentine Andes over two months ago. The first news that anyone had survived came when two of the passengers reached civilization yesterday after a 10 day trek to get help. The two men, Roberto Canessa and Fernando Parrado then contacted the emergency services and directed them to the wreckage.

Six survivors have been flown out by helicopter to a field hospital in San Fernando. The other eight are on the mountain receiving medical care until weather conditions allow them to be rescued. The Fokker "Fairchild" vanished on its way from the Uruguayan capital Montevideo to Santiago in Chile on Friday 13 October.

Its passengers included the Christian Brothers, a catholic Uruguayan rugby team and their friends and relatives.

Anthropophagy

The survivors had a small amount of food: a few chocolate bars, other assorted snacks, and several bottles of wine. During the days following the crash they divided out this food in very small amounts so as not to exhaust their meager supply. Fito also devised a way to melt snow into water by using metal from the seats and placing snow on it. The snow then melted in the sun and dripped into empty wine bottles. Even with this strict rationing, their food stock dwindled quickly. Furthermore, there was no natural vegetation or animals on the snow-covered mountain. The group thus survived by collectively making a decision to eat flesh from the bodies of their dead comrades. This decision was not taken lightly, as most were classmates or close friends.

Reading lolita in Tehran

Growing up in Tehran, i learned that a good girl has to stay virgin until she marries. It was not necessarily my familly's objection, but what the society wanted me to believe in. After I got married and moved to America, I found another world with different values. In here the girls get to choose. They are not forced to do something without even understanding why.

For and iranian girl, who has been brought up according to the rules of the society, it can be a turning point in her life to lose her virginity. She may even get lost for a while, scared or even depressed. It may be like somebody pushing her in this new world, the one that she had been waiting for a long time! She may want to go back to where she was, the place that she knew the most. the problem here is that the society forgot to tell her that its incentive is to protect her from all the bad things that could happen and all the broken heart's tragedies. Well she never got to choose or try. How would you know what you want if you never try?

I just started thinking about it while i was reading "Reading Lolita in Tehran". I wouldn't really recomend the book, the litreture is very weak. However, the author brings up a great point which is the situation of women in Iran.

"Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again ..."

I tried to read Rebecca at the age of 12 and later on when I was 16. I never was able to pass the first 3 chaters. My dad always encouraged me to read the book, but I could never finish it.

last month that we stayed at Parand Joon's house for a week I found the book in her library. The first 3 chapters were absolute torture. This time I had to finish the book and I fell in love with it. I couldn't put it down!

The main character who never had a name other than Mrs. de Winter, grew on me. At some point she reminded me of myself, her suspicious mind and under estimating herself. However, when she got over that phase she started to shine.

I can go on and on and tell you the whole story, but I think you would enjoy it better if you read it yourself.

I have been looking for a book club for so long, finally I found this particular one that doesn't have as many members and is our own community. In the first meeting they chose this book. Looking at the picture and then reading the back cover of the book made me feel nauseous. "I am not wasting my time on this book!" was what ran through my mind. I had to make myself to sit down and actually read the book, only because I wanted to meet new people and get to know them.

The book grew on me. I could not put it down. Surprisingly, it was not one of those cheap romantic book. I learned alot about World War II and everything that happened between the English, Japanese and Chinese.

I would recommend it to anyone who loves reading good books!

The Dog

This is not my dog and it doesn't mean that I want a dog! This is Bobby's nephew's dog, Kyro. As a result to the huge snow in Virginia the whole family slept over at our house on Saturday (It was super fun, but that's another story). I wanted to write about DOG!

I got to really see that a big dog like Kyro can still fit in our house and run around and enjoy himself. I realized that if I get a dog I need to have his own bowls for his food. I learned that I can very much spoil the dog with giving too many treats to him which means that I won't be a good trainer. I got to take him for a walk and that was a great experience. I learned that Kyro (maybe most of the dogs) act like detectives during their walks. They think that we are on a very dangerous mission and somebody is going to catch an kill us! So the whole walk I was either pulled back or forth, since sometimes he would stop to smell something or run to get some other thing! LOL!

By now I surely know that dog needs lots of attention and cleaning! Which neithe me or Bobby have the time for! So there you go: NO DOG FOR THE FEISEE RESIDENTS, YET!

The problem is that I can't stand people who keep crying and nagging all the time. You can say that I am weird ... I don't mind, even I agree with you. Maybe if you knew my background some of it would make sense. I can't function well around people who cry all the time. Cry about their life or ... I really try to help at the begining. However, as soon as I hear myself saying "This is life, enjoy it" or " You only live once" I know I am about to become ignorant and go in to my own cave away from all the darkness.

I wish I could deal with it much better. Specially now that our family needs it, but I can't. My brain just switches off as soon as I see someone over doing the crying and nagging about life!
