Double Triathlon Weekend ... Being My Old Self Again

My usual routine for Kinetic races is that I signup for Saturday race, then on Saturday evening after a few shots of liquid courage, I sign up for the Sunday race. Which means, I race while being hungover on Sundays. For whatever reason this time around I had already signed up for both races ahead of time. So I really didn't know what to do with myself on Saturday night after the Jello shots!

This race was going to be my first Triathlon since October 2021 AND first open water swim since May 2022! Yes, the stupid accident happened blah blah blah, but come on Newsh!

Here is the honest truth: I was planning on ditching everyone on Saturday morning and just do a run for 3 or 4 hours alone. At Friday team dinner, Sara told me that she had never seen me finish a full Tri! That just didn't sit well with me. I did mumble nag about that through the entire race on Saturday, since I was freezing all morning.

Saturday Morning:

I had signed up for Olympic. The water temp was 63, the air was 67. My wetsuit didn't fit me, and no I didn't try it on before the weekend! Did you expect anything less?! So I showed up to the swim start without the said wetsuit. Thank you Jimmy for hanging in the back and jumping in the water with me!

Once my face hit the water, I immediately regretted all my life decisions and started cursing. haha. But I also really wanted to make a point that I still remembered how to Tri! The water was freezing, my legwarmers didn't help at all and my legs were tired from all the kicking once I got out of the water.

Bike ride was cold but a blast. Becky and Lissette were at transition cheering me on. I love my team Z! I was probably the last person out of the water. No I wasn't, but felt like it. The beauty of going in to the water towards the back of the line is that you pass a ton of people on the bike and run.

The run was good and too long if I am honest. I feel like I kept telling everyone that I was passing them because I wanted to wear my Pajama Pants.

And then somehow I crossed the finish line! But then Sara wasn't there to see it! Insert Eyeroll please.

Saturday night was a lot of dancing and liquid courage per usual! We were celebrating couple birthdays! We all wore matching shirts! I actually raced in mine on Sunday.

Sunday Morning:

I woke up and got out of the bed and immediately regretted my life decisions again. The Sprint on Sunday always feels much easier since it is shorter distance. Except for when you don't train for the race. Then everything hurts on the second day. Once I racked the bike in transition I headed to the team tent. I was napping on the tarp thinking that had everything under control! And then I remembered how I totally forgot to leave nutrition and my glasses at the bike! I made it to transition 30 seconds before they closed it! phewww

My swim took forever! My arms were tired and I feel like I was zig zagging the entire course! Once I got on the bike, I was flying! There were a few sketchy parts with some gravel, and I am so happy I didn't wipe out. I wore my shirt for the run, which was 100% polyester and HOT! But everyone was complementing the shirt. Some even thought it was my picture on it and sang the birthday song for me. So yay!

This time sara was at the finish line, she watched me finish. My job was done, I proved a point! Here is the proof ...

So this weekend was the start and the end of my Tri season! Now I am ready to sign up for more dumb things to do. IM Moo here I come!
